BMI Guide

@wbessent asked about body mass index over on twitter last week:

This gives a great opportunity to run through the basics of BMI and body fat composition. It’s pretty straightforward, but essential to know if you want to keep on top of monitoring your physical fitness.

BMI(body mass index) is just a measurement of a persons body mass divided by the square or their height.

It’s not intended to directly measure body fat: a high BMI of muscle is simply a higher percentage of muscle mass, while a high BMI of fat is a higher percentage of fat mass.

If you’re seriously interested in knowing body composition, have it measured on a GE Lunar DXA body composition machine – it’s the gold standard of measurement of muscle and fat!
